Biosecurity Basics

What is biosecurity?

Animal production for the intent of supplying food for human consumption requires the owner/manager to think broadly about potential risks to food supply.  Aspects such as animal density or stocking rate, movement of new animals and vehicles/visitors onto a farm, animal-animal interactions, multiple species on farm including wildlife, monitoring health, and more. There is a lot to consider with both small and large animal production farms. Biosecurity on farm is essential to establish good management practices for animal and thus food supply to humans.
